FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
... & Answers

Q. What is included in the price of a trip?
A. Rates include:

  • Transportation to and from your hotel or the George Town dock (if you're a cruise passenger).
  • Tackle, if required, at no extra cost.
  • Ice-filled cooler with a few light refreshments.
  • Flies for the day's fishing.

Q. What do I need to provide or bring?
A. These are a must:

  • Wading shoes (not sandles). Make sure to bring socks to wear with these to keep the sand from chafing your feet.
  • Sunblock (at least 30 SPF).
  • Polarized Sunglasses.
  • Hat.
  • Camera.

Q. What type of fishing is it?
A. All trips are wade-in and all fishing is sight fishing. We fish shallow water (1-3 feet) primarily for bonefish.

Q. What other species can I expect to catch?
A. The shallow waters surrounding the Cayman Islands are rich with marine life. Fish such as jacks, snapper, barracudas, and other reef fish love flies. Of course, tarpon and permit are also occasionally available, but not as predictable as the bonefish. These species are more a bonus than something you can count on.

Q. What time of day is best to fish in Cayman?
A. Early morning is typically the best time to fly fish in the Caribbean: both the sun and wind are at your back. However, fishing here is much more dependant on the tides than the time of day. You generally want either a flowing or falling tide to find bonefish or permit on the flats. Tarpon also bite better when the tide is moving. So, if the tide is slack in the morning, it is often better to wait and fish later.

Q. Can you keep the fish you catch?
A. No. All sportfishing for visitors on the flats is catch-and-release. Besides, we mainly target bonefish and (as their name suggests) they are full of bones and no good to eat.

Q. Is a fishing license required?
A. No. Visitors to the Caymans are not required to purchase a fishing license. Only non-Caymanian residents are required to have a license.

Q. How do I book a trip?
A. Booking is easy! Simply contact me through my Inquiries page or email directly.

Q. Do I need a deposit?
A. There is no deposit necessary. (It's the honor system... besides, who would bail on a fishing trip without a very good reason?)

Q. What type of payment is accepted?
A. Travellers cheques, cash, and money orders are accepted. Sorry, no credit cards. (All prices in US dollars.)

Looking forward to fishing together.

"Whether or not a fish was hooked matters little. It was a proposal, and was accepted, drawing you across a threshold of gratification from which you would never fully return."
